GRAMMY nominee Skylark is a premier vocal ensemble of leading American vocal soloists, chamber musicians, and music educators. The Boston Globe says that Skylark features “some of Boston’s best singers,” and we’re bringing them here to you!
Since its founding in 2011 in Atlanta and Boston, Skylark has performed dynamic programs in museums, concert halls, and churches across the United States.
Skylark made its international debut in March 2018 at St. John’s Smith Square, London, as part of the prestigious Holy Week Festival, a week-long series of concerts and events that offer music appropriate for the final week of Lent leading up to Easter. The Times of London declared that Skylark was “the highlight” of a festival that included some of the UK’s leading choirs.
The Skylark album that resulted from Artistic Director Matthew Guard’s thematic program for the Holy Week Festival performance, Seven Words from the Cross, was nominated for TWO GRAMMY Awards: Best Choral Performance and Best Immersive Audio Album. The album was recorded at Church of the Redeemer in Chestnut Hill. Matthew designed the powerful program around the scriptural seven last words of Christ from the cross.
Skylark’s music has been described as “sublimely beautiful” (Opera Obsession), “engrossing...reaches in through the ribs and grips the vitals” (WQXR NY), and enough to “leave a hardened critic near tears” (Boston Music Intelligencer).
In 2017, one critic wrote that “The Skylark ensemble practically opens the heavens with the beauty of their sound.” We are so excited to have Skylark join the Cape Symphony for Bach and Forth on November 2 and 3, 2019. This glorious celebration of the great Baroque composer would not be complete without an extraordinary vocal ensemble. This is a can’t miss event.
