To find a brilliant soloist who will perform with the Cape Symphony at our May 2020 Visions: Mozart and Mahler concert, we opened the door to the whole world.
To discover truly creative artists, we decided to hold the competition via video auditions to make it easy for anyone from anywhere to enter. Applicants could choose any Mozart violin concerto and submit a video recording of their performance of the first movement.
The positive response to our competition was overwhelming! We received over 60 high-quality applications from across the United States and all over the world, including Iceland, Russia, and Peru.
Our panel of judges, including Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak, reviewed the applicants’ videos carefully and has now selected eight finalists.
The finalists are:

Next step: the finalists submit a performance video of the second and third movements of their chosen Mozart concerto. The final videos will be judged by a panel of members of the orchestra, working with Jung-Ho. We will announce the winner in March.
The winning violinist will appear as the guest artist at our upcoming concert Visions: Mozart and Mahler on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. This person will perform the chosen Mozart violin concerto with the Cape Symphony, conducted by Jung-Ho. What an amazing opportunity for the winner, and so exciting for our audience to have the first glimpse of a rising star in the world of classical music.
