In Episode 4 of ENJOY!, Jung-Ho interviews Kyle Spraker, the Cape Symphony’s Principal Trumpet. Kyle talks about his various roles as trumpeter, teacher, and director of community outreach and education.

Kyle shows us one of his young trumpet students playing a bit of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” – truly adorable. After our Perfectly Paired” concert, originally scheduled for April, was postponed to April 2021 due to the pandemic, Kyle got in touch with the rest of the Cape Symphony trumpet section, Tobias Monte and Andrew Moreschi. They put together a challenging excerpt from “Concerto for Orchestra” by Bela Bartok, so you can enjoy that video too. Finally, Kyle also shares his performance of “Concerto de Aranjuez” by Joaquin Rodrigo with his wife, Maria Rindenello Spraker, an incredibly talented harpist.

ENJOY! episode 4 also features Quartett Giocosa performing “Danse Macabre,” a tone poem by Camille Saint-Saens. Quartett Giocosa is Heather Goodchild Wade, violin; Irina Fainkichen, violin; Irina Naryshkova, viola; and Elizabeth Schultze, cello. “Giocosa” means “joy” in Italian, and this quartet of Cape Symphony musicians delivers joy in every performance.

Pak’s Pick features Igor Stravinsky conducting the orchestral suite from his ballet “The Firebird.” Leonard Bernstein introduces this performance with the New York Philharmonic. Bernstein knew what it meant to have a composer conduct his own work, and wanted to capture that on film, fortunately for us.
