The Cape Symphony Summer Tune Up is a new program this year. Led by a Cape Symphony teaching artist, each week-long session will take campers through all the major aspects of playing their instrument and get them into tiptop musical shape. Musicians can expect artistic mentorship from a skilled expert in a supportive, challenging, and fun small-group environment. Options are Clarinet Camp, Flute Camp, Low Brass Camp, Percussion Camp, Saxophone Camp, and Trumpet Camp. Dates, locations, and eligible ages for the weeklong camps vary.

Exploring Music is a new hands-on music class in Falmouth for preschoolers, ages three to four. Each eight-week session will introduce students to new instruments, musical concepts, basic musical notation, and significant musical works of various genres, through a variety of movement activities, games, and songs. Music will be used to teach participants different social pragmatics and to develop important critical listening skills. Students will also develop their singing voices and sense of rhythm, and use musical technology to further ear training and overall music development.

Group Guitar, for players 13 and up, will meet in Falmouth and is a fun introductory course exploring the basics of music notation, chords, picking, and strumming techniques, with song selections from a variety of genres. Another option in Falmouth is Group Ukulele: the friendly instrument is a great place for students of all ages to begin an exploration into string instruments.

Get Ready for Piano is a fun-filled introduction to the instrument for children ages four to five, taught in Falmouth, while those five to 11 can enroll in the Piano Explorers class, held in Barnstable.

For adults looking to try something new this summer, Intro to Piano is ideal for those who have always wanted to play. Students will learn to play several simple songs for fun and enjoyment. Beginner and Intermediate level classes will be offered in Falmouth.

The Seaside String Ensemble is a multigenerational group, aimed at string students of all ages and levels. Students develop technical and rhythmic skills through the ensemble experience, in a low-pressure setting. Seaside Strings will meet in Barnstable.

For adults ages 18 and up, Art Appreciation: Harlem Renaissance focuses on the decades when a cultural renaissance in art, music, and literature flourished in Harlem. Students will learn how and why artists moved from classical styles like landscape to more Afrocentric work, and how artists used their unique voices to depict their experiences and create a revolution in art. This art appreciation class will be held in Falmouth.

Ballet classes will be held in Barnstable, and a range of classes are available for students ages four to 18. In Elementary Ballet for ages four to six, the focus is on introducing students to ballet terms and concepts and engaging in creative movement. In Ballet 1/2 for ages six to nine, students learn placement, posture, and poise, and develop teamwork. Students must audition for Ballet 3/4 – Pointe 1, which includes beginning pointe and other more advanced techniques for ages ten to 14. Ballet 5/6 – Pointe 2 is the most advanced class, for ages 13 to 18 with prior training, and emphasizes artistry, phrasing, choreography, corps de ballet, and soloist variations for repertoire and performing.
