HYANNIS, MA—May 18, 2022

For the first time in its popular “Passport” series, the Cape Symphony presents an adventurous journey to Ireland. Passport to Ireland will feature an eclectic array of symphonic and folk music from the Emerald Isle on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, 2022, rescheduled from January due to the snowstorm. Tickets are still available for May 28, and May 29 is sold out.

For customers holding tickets with the January performance dates and times, those tickets will be valid for the May performance at the same day and time only. Tickets with the date of Saturday, January 29, 2022 are only good for the Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 7:30 PM performance. Tickets with the date of Sunday, January 30, 2022 are only good for the Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 3:00 PM performance.

At this Masterpiece concert, the Cape Symphony musicians will be joined by special guest stars GRAMMY-winning Irish fiddler Eileen Ivers and Celtic harpist Maeve Gilchrist. Fan favorite Ivers is the world’s pre-eminent Irish fiddler today and returns to the Cape Symphony stage for the first time in ten years. Gilchrist tours with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble and is the co-music director of WGBH’s Christmas Celtic Sojourn.

“In preparing for Passport to Ireland, I learned so much about Ireland’s rich traditions and its accomplished composers, and I look forward to sharing this wonderful music with our audiences,” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor, Cape Symphony. “I’m especially thrilled to have Eileen Ivers and Maeve Gilchrist perform; they are the ideal guests for this event.”

Passport to Ireland will feature important Irish composer Seóirse Bodley, who contributed a unique voice to symphonic music, as well as pieces composed by Gilchrist and Ivers and traditional songs. Dancers from Cape Cod’s Kanaley School of Irish Dance, accredited by the Irish Gaelic Commission, will add to the authentic experience. Adds Pak, “I know that many on Cape Cod feel a special connection to Ireland, and we’ll weave in the influence of familiar Irish folk music.”
