Jane Caputo moved to the Cape from Maryland where she was founder, artistic director, principal dancer and choreographer of the St. Mary’s Ballet Company and School. The school flourished under Ms. Caputo’s inspired leadership, as demonstrated through rapid growth, grants from the NEA and consistent praise for her work, including many original ballets.
Ms. Caputo studied with Edward Villella and Mimi Paul (NYC Ballet), Victoria Shifflett (American Ballet Theater). Her teaching method is Vaganova-based with influences from the Royal Ballet School and the Cecchetti Method. Advanced students will benefit from her Balanchine Method. She has understandable pride in the many accomplishments of her students. Among these are scholarships to George Mason University, Kirov Academy, and American Ballet Theatre School, as well as acceptance to the Joffrey Ballet’s pre-professional school, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, and Boston Ballet Summer Program. Ms. Caputo offers classes in Pre-Ballet through Ballet 5/6 and private instruction.
