Great things often come in pairs. Twin sisters Christina and Michelle Naughton astound worldwide audiences who have seen them playing with incredible synchronicity. The Juilliard graduates perform Francis Poulenc’s “Concerto for Two Pianos,” a delightful dialogue between the two pianists and the orchestra. Mozart inspired the composer while writing this piece, and it’s a perfect example of Poulenc’s light, charming style.
“Old Wine in New Bottles,” a suite for pairs of musicians, is a delightful interpretation of four Old English folk songs. Our talented woodwinds and brass will illuminate the new life breathed into these captivating melodies by composer Gordon Jacob.
We’ll present “Concerto for Orchestra” by Béla Bartók, featuring the famous “Game of Pairs” movement with pairs of bassoons, oboes, clarinets, flutes, and trumpets, each pair performing its own solo. Bartok incorporated eastern European folk music into this intensely dramatic piece that requires each musician to be a virtuoso. This will be a thrilling showcase for the orchestra.
