Cape Symphony Home Cape Symphony - Cape Cod Live Orchestra Music

Because rehearsing and performing with others helps students develop technically and musically, we encourage instrumentalists and vocalists to explore as many ensemble opportunities as possible.

Several ongoing ensembles are listed below.

The Cape Symphony Youth Orchestra program offers a comprehensive sequence of two developmental ensembles that bring talented young musicians of all ages and skill levels together to perform symphonic music under the direction of professional conductors, musicians and educators.  The goal of the program is to nurture musicianship and foster joy in instrumental and orchestral playing.

The Program has two sections: Youth Orchestra and Debut Strings. Students experience a diverse and exciting repertoire in rehearsals and performances in both groups throughout the academic year.

Cape Symphony Musicians and other professional are invited to teach workshops and master classes and occasionally perform alongside student musicians. Students can also observe Symphony Master Classes conducted by visiting guest artists and attend selected closed auditions prior to selected Symphony performances. Depending on instrumentation and skill level, student musicians may be invited to join a Symphony Master Class.  Student musicians also receive a 50% discount on all Cape Symphony concert tickets.  Learn More

Sing, Laugh, Improvise, Inspire!
Students with a passion for singing--or even a burning curiosity!--are invited to join this dynamic new youth chorus directed by John Yankee of the Falmouth Chorale.  In a relaxed, friendly environment, students will learn healthy vocal techniques, develop rhythmic skills and learn to sing in unison and harmony.  The chorus' diverse repertoire includes folk, world, popular and classical song – anything from Mozart to the Muppets. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to discover and uncover more about themselves and their “natural instruments,” while making new friends and vibrant music. The only requirements for participation are a sense of adventure and a sense of humor!

SUMMER SOUNDS | Grades 6-12
This two-week program held during the Summer Sessions creates a stimulating, nurturing experience for aspiring musicians to share the joy of making music and new friends. Students will learn more about their instruments, fine-tune their music reading skills and increase their knowledge of and appreciation for a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, rock, classical, Broadway, vocal and string ensembles. The program finale – the Summer Sounds Concert – is an invaluable opportunity for students to gain performance experience.

In this Junior version of Summer Sounds, we’ve created a program specially designed to accommodate younger musicians, keeping them excited and motivated by playing in a group setting. Students will spend two hours a day singing and playing their instruments while learning music, basic theory and ear training in chorus, then transferring those skills to an instrumental segment. This two-week program creates a stimulating, nurturing experience for aspiring musicians.

This new Ensemble Series focuses on today’s hottest musicians and their chart-topping hits.  Vocalists and instrumentalists will explore different artists' songwriting and arranging techniques and perform their top hits.  There are opportunities to sing lead and/or harmony vocals within the ensemble.   All instrumentation is welcome--strings, percussion, horns, reeds, guitar!

No audition is required to join this fun and supportive group. You just have to love to sing and perform! Students will learn the correct use of the singing voice with emphasis on proper tonal production, breathing, phrasing, intonation and diction.

CJazz (Conservatory Jazz) | Ages 12-Adult
Small band combos, fun jam sessions…and all that jazz! This program brings musicians of similar ages and abilities together for a unique ensemble opportunity.  Under the direction of a professional musician, each group will experience a repertoire infused with jazz during rehearsals and performances. The small class structure affords more one-on-one time with the instructor and enhanced playing and solo opportunities. And, the gigs are great, too! CJazz Ensembles have performed at large galas, private functions and concert venues across the Cape.

Intermediate and advanced musicians will explore a diverse repertoire including a variety of Classical genres in this ensemble which follows in the heritage of the Conservatory Orchestra. Renowned violinist and alumni Joshua Bell played with the Conservatory Orchestra years ago and proudly lists it on his resume. Instructor Bo Ericsson is the principal cellist for the Cape Symphony.
