The Composing Kids program originally ran from 2002 to 2008 and over 150 students (some are now in college) experienced the thrill of hearing their own melodies played by the CCSO in performance.  Now we have invited these same students back to write a special brass and percussion fanfare to celebrate our fiftieth year.

Under the direction of Tom Faris, Nauset Regional High School Director of Music, students meet once weekly between October and December, study fanfares and compositional techniques and then write their own melody which is then orchestrated into a final work to be performed at the opening of the January 2012 concert.

The piece will be performed under the direction of Jung-Ho Pak with the CCSO’s brass and percussion section playing alongside some of the Cape’s best brass and percussionists, as selected by the Cape Cod Music Educators Association.

For more information, contact George Scharr, Director of Education, at gscharr@capesymphony.org.

41 students from local schools were challenged by the Composing Kids, Composing Teens programs in 2007-08.
