Passport to Italy

We’re taking a tour of beautiful Italy…with stops in Sicily, the Colosseum in Rome and the great Opera House in Milan. We’re crossing time and taking our time. Italy’s music is as flavorful as its food, and we’re in the mood to sample it all: ageless arias, Neapolitan folk songs, haunting film scores, modern-day love songs. Two outstanding vocalists join us. An orchestral showpiece brings us home. No matter your heritage. You will love being Italian tonight.

The Reviews Are In!
"...It was the orchestra's turn to paint Italian pictures after intermission, which it did with Respighi's colorful "Pines of Rome." There is much to love about this work, and much to love about the orchestra's handling of it.
"Pines" has four scenes, two vigorous beginning and ending movements flanking a dirge (depicting the Catacombs) and a nocturne ("Pines of Janiculum"), which ends touchingly with a recorded nightingale, perhaps the first use of electronic music in a composition. These slower, inner movements were molded to particular effect by Pak, who navigated the serene sequences with clarity, and shaped each phrase with meaning."
