GLORIAE DEI CANTORES CHOIR
A very moving Christmas version in period-style
Although Messiah has been adapted for grand-scale performances, our special Christmas version is faithful to the composer's original intentions. The venues are smaller, more intimate. The orchestra and chorus are modestly-sized and perform in period-style, a lighter, more agile style of singing and playing. The orchestra also includes Baroque specialists who will actually perform with period instruments, which sound very different from their traditional counterparts. The Baroque trumpet, for example, has no keys. The musician controls the sound entirely with his lips, producing a more earthy sound. Baroque bows replace regular bows, creating a more transluscent, ethereal sound.
The effect is emotional, inspirational and unforgettable.
In 2010, we introduced CCSO Presents Productions to bring more artists and cultural experiences to the community. These events are in addition to our regular Classics and CapePOPS! Series. Some feature Maestro Pak and the Orchestra; others feature guest artists; other feature both. Proceeds from these events benefit our Season symphonic performances, currently funded through a combination of ticket sales, private donations, sponsorships and other fundraisers.
