Cape Symphony Home Cape Symphony - Cape Cod Live Orchestra Music

The Cape Symphony
The Cape Symphony started as a community orchestra more than half a century ago. Today, it is one of the largest orchestral organizations in Massachusetts. Every season, Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak, a professional ensemble of 75 musicians and emerging and world-class soloists bring innovative programming to the Cape community.

Featured guest artists have included pianists Jon Nakamatsu, Freddy Kempf and Ignat Solzhenitsyn, along with violinists Joshua Bell, Jennifer Frautschi, Miriam Fried, Ayako Yoshida and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. Jazz great John Pizzarelli, trumpeter Byron Stripling and Nashville’s Annie Moses Band have energized the Symphony’s Pops concerts.

The season includes ten Masterpiece and twelve CapePOPS performances, plus a New Year’s Day Party concert, all held in the 1400-seat Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis, MA. During the summer, the orchestra performs for thousands of residents and vacationers at outdoor events.

In 2010, the organization introduced Cape Symphony Presents productions to bring more artists and cultural experiences to the community and to support its symphonic performances, currently funded by ticket sales, private donations, sponsorships and fundraisers. Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Celtic fiddler Eileen Ivers, the classical/comedy duo Igudesman and Joo and The Vienna Boys Choir are among many who have headlined these events.

This year, the Symphony introduces Nth Degree, the new force in Chamber Music. The group is directed by the Symphony’s Concertmaster, Jae Cosmos Lee, and features Symphony principals and guest artists. Falmouth Academy presents the group’s first series, The Titans, featuring the music of Brahms, Beethoven and Mozart.

In 2010, the Symphony merged with the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music & Arts, forming the largest arts organization in the community. In addition to musical instruction, Cape Conservatory offers classes in dance and art for all ages at campuses in West Barnstable and Falmouth. Its Preschool program is known for blending traditional academics with the arts. The organization’s educational programs extend far into the community through its MusicWorks! Everyday programs which reach more than 14,000 students on the Cape and Islands.
