Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra
Young People's Concert
|
|
The CCSO partners with participating school districts to bring professional quality, live symphonic music to young people on Cape Cod. Approximately 2,800 fourth grade students, along with their teachers and chaperones, take the bus to the Barnstable Performing Arts Center for a school-day concert designed with the children’s interests in mind.
The winner of the Young Artists’ Competition is often a featured soloist with the orchestra at this concert.
Tickets are free to all participating school districts and available for a fee to other schools and/or grades as space allows.
Young People’s Concert
Thursday, October 6, 2011
Joan Landry, Associate Conductor, CCSO
This year's Young People's Concert welcomes students to the lands of Lincoln, as
they travel from his simple wedding in Springfield, Illinois to his rise to the Presidency
in Washington D.C. The Cape Cod Symphony presents the innovative and socially-
conscious songs of Stephen Foster to the Civil War’s most popular tune “When Johnny
Comes Marching Home”. Lincoln himself (noted actor Fritz Klein), serves as witness to
his incredible legacy while as the students travel to Mt. Rushmore and his Monument in
Washington. The CCSO then celebrates the birth of a unified nation with America
the Beautiful, featuring the lyrics by Falmouth’s own, Ms. Katharine Lee Bates.
For questions about the Young People’s Concert, please contact George Scharr, Director of Community Education, at gscharr@capesymphony.org or Betsy Reney, Community Education Assistant, at breney@capecodconservatory.org.
