Homeschooling this year? Hoping that your student can still enjoy the rich benefits of music and art education, as well as a safe social setting? Look no further! The Cape Symphony is proud to announce “Arts Explorers,” a weekly music and visual arts program for students from preschool through 8th grade. Led by a skilled arts educator, students will enjoy a 10-week curriculum composed of nationally-renowned music programming, visual art projects developed by an expert educator, and plenty of social recreation!

Classes will be divided by age group and limited to 10 students per session, to ensure proper social distancing measures. Weather-permitting, outdoor classroom space will be prioritized. Note: the grades K-8 students will also spend a portion of each class working on a visual arts project. Grades K-8 courses include a mid-session break for a snack and some physical recreation.

Note: Financial aid scholarships are available for qualified students.

The Preschool Arts Explorers class will use John Feierabend’s acclaimed First Steps in Music curriculum. Young musicians will develop their senses of tuneful-ness, beatful-ness, and artful-ness, all while enjoying imaginative games and instrument exploration!

Grades K-2:

The K-2 Arts Explorers students will spend 10 weeks traveling the musical globe with Carnegie Hall’s Music Explorers curriculum. Using materials developed by celebrated international artists, learners will encounter the folk music traditions of nations such as Haiti, Argentina, South Africa, and Greece. Students will enjoy hands-on experiences with musical instruments as well as many other enriching activities.

Grades 3-5:

Arts Explorers in grades 3-5 will participate in the Cape Symphony’s Link-Up program, a partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute! This highly participatory program explores orchestral repertoire and fundamental musical skills, including creative work and composition, through a hands-on music curriculum. Over 1,400 students across Cape Cod (and 450,000 globally!) participate in this highly engaging program each year, culminating in a live, interactive concert with the Cape Symphony (details forthcoming).

Grades 6-8:

Arts Explorers in grades 6-8 will dive deep into a variety of musical topics. Students can expect to explore contemporary and classical styles of music, dig into the international musical traditions of several nations, learn about music from their favorite movies, build their own musical instruments, and much more! Cooperative learning and teamwork will be prioritized, as students sharpen their skills as researchers and lovers of music.
