Donor Spotlight: Meet Evie and Ron Rencurrel

For Cape Cod residents Evie and Ron Rencurrel, Cape Symphony Orchestra concerts are a mainstay of their cultural and social lives.

Evie grew up in a musical household, and happily recalls her parents and friends spending evenings making music together. “My Dad played the sax, and my Mom, the piano. Everyone loved to sing. It was just such a wonderful time!” Evie herself had ten years of piano lessons, and minored in Music Appreciation in college.

Ron was more inclined to athletics as a student, but not knowing a lot about classical music in an academic way doesn’t lessen his enjoyment today. Whether a concert program is familiar or includes some unknowns, “we go, and we’re always entertained,” he says. Often, a concert can be an unexpected pleasure – Evie particularly recalls being delighted by the music from Scheherazade at our Storytellers concert. “It was such a surprise how wonderful it was!”

The social aspect of the Cape Symphony experience is important, says Ron. “You see people you otherwise wouldn’t, as some of the activities you’ve done with friends over the years can tend to fall away.” Music is a way to stay connected.

The Rencurrels are longtime subscribers to Cape Symphony’s Masterpiece and CapePOPS! series. They love their seats: “Sixth row, right in the middle! That way we can see what everyone’s doing.” As subscribers, they keep those favorite seats every season.

Asked why they donate to support Cape Symphony, Ron says it’s a pragmatic decision. They’ve grown accustomed to giving back in important areas of their lives, and Cape Symphony is one of those. He notes that it’s easy to arrange to give from an Individual Retirement Account.

Cape Symphony is committed to delivering exceptional performances, and for Evie, that defines the concert experience. “I feel like everything is done really excellently… the musicians, the guest soloists, the programming. It’s so creative. When you go, you know you’ll hear excellent music.”

“The musicians are just so good,” she adds. “How can you go wrong?”
