You’re invited to a Cape Verdean concert and party at Cape Symphony’s Falmouth campus (60 Highfield Drive) this Sunday, April 14 at 3:00 pm. The KabuJazz Ensemble, featuring the fabulous Candida Rose, will perform.
“KabuJazz” is the unique fusion of Candida Rose Baptista’s Cape Verdean musical roots with American influences for a fresh new take on world/jazz music. Candida’s warm, compelling voice captivates and stirs audiences, combining overtones and undertones of jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel with just the right touch of international spice. She reaches out with her heart and soul, affecting all in her presence.
A second-generation Cape Verdean vocalist, songwriter, entertainer, and music and cultural educator, born and raised in New Bedford, MA, Candida Rose brings the richness and beauty of Cape Verdean/American musical culture and heritage to every audience. She also works with Women in World Jazz to bring music by women composers around the world to libraries, schools, and other New England venues. Candida has appeared on the nationally televised PBS program “No Passport Required” (her part starts at about 18:30) hosted by chef Marcus Samuelson, to perform and discuss Cape Verdean history and culture.
Here she is singing Kabu Verdi, Un Dia, from her first album:
