Gifted trumpeter Summer Camargo leads a brilliant jazz sextet in familiar and original compositions that will have you smiling and grooving in no time.
Born and raised in Hollywood, Florida, Summer Camargo is now based in New York City, where she majors in Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School. She has taken the heady world of jazz performance by storm. At 21, Summer has already performed at major festivals and venues, both as a band leader and as an increasingly sought-after collaborator. You may recognize her as one of the newest members of the Saturday Night Live Band on NBC!
Summer’s debut album, recorded under Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records label, is due out in January. She won first place in the International Trumpet Guild’s Ryan Anthony Trumpet Memorial Competition, covered for Wynton Marsalis on the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra’s 2022 Big Band Holidays Tour, and has performed with her sextet at several prestigious New York City venues. Her original compositions, inspired by love of family and friends or the joy of riding in a convertible on a sunny day, have been performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra at Rose Hall and at their 2022 Gala.
Summer Camargo approaches both classic tunes and original repertoire with a swinging disposition and strong sense of lyricism. Her playing and her presence are sensational, and her connection with her band and her audience is warm and genuine.
Pianist Esteban Castro, bassist Raul Reyes Bueno, saxophonist Chris Lewis, trombonist Jeffery Miller, and drummer John Sturino make up the rest of Summer Camargo’s sextet. Each is a highly accomplished, impressively trained, prestigiously awarded and critically acclaimed musician. As a band, they radiate charisma, joy in each other's musicianship and talent, and pure love of jazz.
