WEST BARNSTABLE, MA—August 22, 2024
Opportunities for students of all ages at West Barnstable and Falmouth campuses

Cape Symphony announces Fall semester classes for adults, young adults, and children at its West Barnstable and Falmouth campuses. The Fall semester begins September 3, 2024.

“Our Fall classes include exciting new offerings and perennial favorites,” said Director of Education Jennifer Rabold. “There is truly something for everyone!”

For adults, music classes include Intro to Piano for beginner and intermediate players. Ensembles, including Flute Choir, Flute Quartet, and Seaside Strings, provide an opportunity to make beautiful music in a group focused on your instrument. New this year, Singing the American Standards covers breathing, tone, diction, phrasing and performance skills.

Concert Conversations with Joe Marchio and Friends will delve into the stories behind the music you’ll hear at Cape Symphony Orchestra concerts this season. The class will deepen your connection to the program, enhancing the concert experience.

For children, Cape Symphony offers classes for every age and stage. In Music Together®, children aged 0-5 and their caregivers share songs, instruments, chants, and movement activities in a playful setting. Piano Explorers now encompasses three levels of instruction for ages 4-7. Percussion Explorers teaches students aged 5-7 about rhythm patterns and dynamics with hand percussion instruments; ages 7-9 are introduced to the drum set and instruments played with sticks.

Cape Symphony Singers teaches students aged 5-10 how to sing on pitch and in harmony, and to breathe, relax, and expand their vocal range. In a Songwriting class especially for middle and high schoolers, students write their own music with encouragement through the compositional process, and learn about form, harmony, phrasing, and other songwriting techniques.

Suzuki Group Violin Class supplements weekly private lessons for students aged 3-12. In the group setting, they lay the foundation for ensemble playing, perfect their intonation, and develop as musicians.

New this fall, Cape Symphony offers Music Theory Fundamentals for ages 12-25. Students will explore the essential elements of music theory and develop a strong foundational understanding of concepts that are crucial for advancing their musical skills.

Cape Symphony offers a variety of art classes for youth, including Sculpture for ages 5-9, Drawing for ages 9-12, Digital Photography for ages 12+, and Art Portfolio Development for ages 13-18.

New this fall, an Actors Workshop for ages 13-18 will explore the art of acting though playful exercises and basic techniques.

Cape Symphony Dance Company offers a diverse and comprehensive program for all ages. It begins with Ballet Buddies for ages 2-4, and continues all the way through Repertory, Pointe, and Company Ballet. Acro and Conditioning, Contemporary, and Hip Hop classes are also offered. Tap 1/2 for ages 8-12 is open to both new tappers and those with some previous experience. Adult Tap students can participate either standing or from a seated position.

Cape Symphony also offers private music lessons year-round for children and adults, from beginning through advanced levels in all major instruments and voice. An expert faculty with a wide range of talents and personalities ensures an excellent student/teacher match. Recitals are held at semester’s end, and community performance opportunities are offered throughout the year.

Cape Symphony campuses are located at 2235 Iyannough Road, West Barnstable and 60 Highfield Drive, Falmouth.
