CapePOPS! series opens with hits from blockbuster musicals
WEST BARNSTABLE, MA—September 23, 2025
The Cape Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 2025/26 CapePOPS! series with “Defying Gravity: The Best of Broadway!” at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM on October 18 and at 3:00 PM on October 19. Guest conductor Jason Seber will lead a program of smash hits from Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, West Side Story, and more. Powerhouse Broadway vocalists Jessica Hendy, Kelli Rabke, and Scott Coulter, and pianist John Boswell will join the Orchestra for this exciting performance.
Jason Seber is a strong proponent of the eclectic experiences today’s symphony orchestras offer their communities. He has conducted many of America’s leading orchestras, and music for over 25 feature films. Seber has performed with a wide range of award-winning artists including Patti Austin, Boyz II Men, Melissa Etheridge, Ben Folds, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, Natalie Merchant, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Leslie Odom Jr., Pink Martini, Stephen Schwartz, Doc Severinsen, Lindsey Stirling, and Bobby Watson.
Jessica Hendy played Grizabella in Cats in the original Broadway run and the 2016 revival, the only person ever to have appeared in both its Broadway incarnations. Other Broadway credits include Aida and Amour. She has toured internationally in Cats and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She's a Drama Desk Award nominee and winner of the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for her one-woman musical Walking With Bubbles.
Kelli Rabke was handpicked by Andrew Lloyd Webber for her Broadway debut as the Narrator in the revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and reprised the role at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Also on Broadway, she played Eponine in Les Misérables. Kelli has performed nationwide, including as Yonah in the American premiere of Stephen Schwartz’s Children of Eden at the Paper Mill Playhouse and as Dorothy in their production of The Wizard of Oz.
Scott Coulter is one of New York’s most honored vocalists, with five MAC Awards, five Bistro Awards and two Nightlife Awards. He directed and starred in the world premiere of A Christmas Carol: The Symphonic Concert with the Baltimore Symphony, and in the Emmy-nominated PBS production. He is Emmy-nominated for his performance in American Song at NJPAC and Grammy-nominated for his work on Sondheim Unplugged.
John Boswell has music directed Judy Collins, Andy Williams, Bob Newhart, and a host of other talents and tours. He played Moose in the national tour of Crazy For You and has appeared on The Tonight Show, Today, CBS This Morning, Live with Regis And Kathie Lee, General Hospital, and more. Orchestral appearances include Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert, Blockbuster Broadway!, Sheena Easton and Scott Coulter: The Spy Who Loved Me, and Music of the Knights.
