An afternoon devoted to Tchaikovsky pairs two of his most beautiful Romantic masterpieces. Piano Concerto No. 1 opens the program with majesty, excitement, and soaring drama. Symphony No. 5 unfolds as an intensely emotional journey from shadow to triumph, weaving fate and passion into a powerful symphonic arc.

Magdalene Ho, Piano
Malaysian pianist Magdalene Ho gained international recognition after winning the prestigious 2023 Clara Haskil International Piano Competition, where she also received the Audience Prize, Young Critics' Prize, and Children's Corner Prize. A student of Dmitri Alexeev at the Royal College of Music on a full scholarship, she is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young pianists of her generation.
Highlights of her 2025–26 season include recital debuts at Tonhalle Zürich and performances with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as appearances at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rheingau Festival, Lille Piano(s) Festival, and SWR Kultur Internationale Pianisten series. Recent performances have also taken her to the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Teatro alla Scala, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, and Laeiszhalle Hamburg.
Ho was named International Piano Magazine's "One to Watch" in 2024, won the International German Piano Award, and received the 2025 Tabor Foundation Award at the Verbier Festival Academy. She makes her Cape Symphony debut this season.
