Cape Cod weather may be cooling, but Cape Symphony Presents is still sizzling! Join us to experience Mariachi Music of Mexico by The Veronica Robles Band.
Mariachi music is centuries old, and deeply rooted in Mexican culture. For Veronica Robles, traditional ranchera songs have been an elemental part of her life from earliest childhood. Times spent singing with her mother and grandmother, she says in this mini-documentary, “are the most beautiful memories I have.”
Veronica has made it her life’s work to spread joy in the world through this beautiful music. With that goal, she started Boston’s first all-female mariachi band. “I realized the genre was dominated by men,” she says, “but I had to decide what I wanted to do with my life, not what someone else says I can or can’t do. So I started the all-female mariachi group.” People would ask her if there were women “professional enough” to form a mariachi group. “Obviously there are!” she laughs. “I mean, how could there not be?”
This passionate music and this unique, wonderful group will captivate your senses and transport you to a world filled with strong emotion and profound artistry. Joy, sadness, love and loss are all poured into this music. It doesn’t matter a bit if you don’t speak Spanish… you will feel it. “Mexican ranchera music sung by mariachi is about expressing all your heart, without filter,” says Robles.
Here they are performing the exquisite love song, “Deja que Salga La Luna (Let the Moon Rise).” (“How much did destiny owe me, that it paid me with you?” Lyrics don’t get more romantic than that!)
