Cabaret singer, jazz vocalist, and Wellfleet native Ella Mae Dixon will join the Cape Symphony as a special guest at our free outdoor concert at the Salt Pond Visitors Center in Eastham on Thursday, August 24 at 7:00 PM.
At 20, Ella Mae is clearly a powerful talent and a rising star. Now based in New York, she is a member of the Juilliard School’s Extension program.
Ella Mae recently had her solo show debut at the famed Birdland Jazz Club, where Stephen Mosher of Broadway World was wowed by her “honey and brandy vocals,” stage presence, and relaxed, warm connection to her audience. “What we have here is a natural,” he wrote. “She has a genuinely special gift, particularly with vintage music.”
Ella Mae is delighted to be sharing that gift with a Cape Cod audience at Symphony at the Seashore. It’s a homecoming for her, one she relishes amid the hustle and bustle of her New York life. “Whenever I get back to the ocean, it’s like all my anxieties wash away.”
Symphony at the Seashore will be Ella Mae’s orchestral debut, and she could not be more excited. “This is a dream come true,” she said. “To be invited to perform with the power of the full orchestra -- what greater honor is there than that?” As a Barbra Streisand fan, Ella Mae is especially looking forward to performing “On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever” at the National Seashore. “It’s just perfect for the setting, and it will be a thrill to sing a song that Barbra made popular.”
Ella Mae will join fabulous jazz vocalist Mozelle Andrulot of Eastham, singing “Lady is a Tramp” as a duet. Mozelle has performed on both sides of the Atlantic, and is a favorite here on home shores. This just one of several nostalgic and beautiful treasures these powerful and lovely voices and the Cape Symphony orchestra have in store, as we step back in time together on a lovely Cape Cod summer evening. We can’t wait to hear them all!
Symphony at the Seashore is on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 7:00 PM at the Salt Pond Visitors Center Amphitheater, located at 50 Nauset Road in Eastham (rain date Friday, August 25). Lawn seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Admission is free and tickets are not required.
