Fun and engaging music highlight of summer concert featuring guest conductor Peter Mansfield

What happens when you combine the lush and sophisticated music of Richard Rodgers with the romantic and poetic words of Oscar Hammerstein? For Cape Symphony audiences, it will be a wildly engaging and lively performance paying tribute to the incomparable duo, arguably the most successful partnership in Broadway musical history.
Collectively, the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein earned 42 Tony Awards, 15 Academy Awards, two Pulitzer Prizes, two GRAMMY Awards and 2 Emmy Awards. In 1998, Rodgers & Hammerstein were recognized by Time Magazine among the 20 most influential artists of the 20th century.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear a collection of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most successful songs from musicals like Oklahoma!, Carousel and Sound of Music presented in one epic performance,” said Cape Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak. “With a live orchestra and the extraordinary group of talented rising stars from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, this is a performance that will have you singing all the way home.”
Guest conductor, Bostonian and lifelong Cape Cod summer resident Peter Mansfield will man the podium for “People Will Say We’re In Love,” from Oklahoma!, “June is Bustin’ Out All Over,” from Carousel, South Pacific’s “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Shall We Dance,” from The King and I and “My Favorite Things,” from The Sound of Music, among many others.
Mansfield, a professor at the nationally acclaimed Boston Conservatory at Berklee Theater Division, majored in music at Harvard College, where he arranged for and directed the world-famous Harvard Krokodiloes as well as the renowned Hasty Pudding Theatricals. In 2005, Mansfield began an ongoing affiliation as arranger/orchestrator for singer/songwriter Elizabeth Von Trapp, granddaughter of the legendary Captain Von Trapp of The Sound of Music fame.
Michelle Chassé, Head of Musical Theater Dance at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, will direct the eight talented singers from the Musical Theatre program.
