Welcome to the red carpet! Join Cape Symphony’s own “co-hosts” Joe Marchio and Jae Cosmos Lee as they lead your Orchestra performing music from Academy Award-winning films and their unforgettable soundtracks. You’ll hear music from the Golden Age of Hollywood, along with favorites from Titanic, E.T., and Frozen. Broadway sensation and Wicked star Dee Roscioli is also welcomed back to the Cape Symphony stage in this star-studded performance.

Joe Marchio, Conductor & Co-Host

Joe Marchio has endeared himself to Cape Symphony audiences in his role of Assistant Conductor and frequent host of our “Musically Speaking” pre-concert talks. He also serves as Music Director of the Chatham Chorale, and Pastor and Director of Music at First Congregational Church of Chatham. Marchio holds degrees from The College of Wooster, Yale University, and Boston Conservatory, where he received his master of music degree in conducting, studying under Dr. William Cutter.

Jae Cosmos Lee, Co-Host

You know Jae Cosmos Lee as the Cape Symphony’s Concertmaster and founding member of A Far Cry, the Grammy-nominated self-conducted orchestra based in Boston. Jae has performed in concert halls throughout Europe, the United States, Canada and Asia, and music festivals worldwide including Aspen, Chautauqua, Banff, and Salzburg. Jae has worked closely with the members of the Cleveland, Juilliard, and Tokyo String Quartets, and shared the stage with everyone from renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro to the most exciting chamber ensembles performing today.

Masterpiece 4

A “compositional rebel” and great romantic, Beethoven rejected standard classical practices to write with relentless emotion, inspiring many of history’s most famous composers to follow suit. This all-Beethoven program is highlighted by the great “Leonore” Overture, and a culminating performance of his epic Symphony No. 5.

Dina Gilbert, Conductor

Dina Gilbert attracts critical acclaim for her energy, precision and versatility. She is currently Music Director of the Kamloops Symphony, and has guest conducted leading Canadian orchestras such as Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. Dina was featured in the recent documentary Femmes symphoniques and recognized as one of 50 Quebec personalities “creating the extraordinary” by Urbania Magazine.

The Masterpiece Series concerts also feature the Musically Speaking pre-concert talks, insightful and entertaining looks into the music you are about to hear. These free 30-minute talks begin one hour prior to each Masterpiece Series concert.

Link Up is a Carnegie Hall-designed program that provides music educators with special tools to prepare their students to perform with the Cape Symphony right from their seats in the audience. Students in grades 3-5 will sing and play recorder in a highly interactive concert that strives to recruit the next generation of talented Cape Cod musicians!

Our culminating Pops concert of the season celebrates the genius of the first, last, and only “Piano Man.” Stellar guest artists will join forces with the Orchestra to perform Billy Joel’s greatest hits that have spanned more than five decades. Classics like “You May Be Right,” “More Than a Woman,” and “Only the Good Die Young” will have you on your feet and wanting more. Don’t wait too long… this one will sell out fast!

In July 2023, Kevin Fitzgerald won the Special Prize for Best Performance of the Contemporary Piece at The Mahler Competition. He is the first conductor to win this award, a prize sponsored by the Mahler Foundation, which led to him conducting the world premiere of Bernd Richard Deutsch's Con Moto with the Bamberger Symphoniker during the competition's final concert. Kevin was a 2021 Tanglewood Music Center Conducting Fellow and has been awarded Career Assistance Grants by the Solti Foundation U.S. for four consecutive years. He has been Associate Conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony since the 2022-23 season, during which he conducted over 35 performances, including a fully-staged production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. In 2023-24, Kevin made his subscription debut with the Jacksonville Symphony and pianist Joyce Yang, to lead a recording of Sean Shepherd's Concerto for Ensemble with the University of Chicago's Grossman Ensemble by invitation of the composer, and his debut with the Cape Symphony. Also, Kevin will return to the New York Philharmonic as a cover conductor for three programs, in addition to assisting Stéphane Denève at the St. Louis Symphony.

The grandeur of the sea has enthralled the artistic imagination since the dawn of time. Like painters and poets, composers from Beethoven to Wagner and Rimsky-Korsakov to Led Zeppelin have aspired to capture the massive force of our oceans in their work. Our fascination with this natural resource is primal and unceasing. In this program, the music of Maurice Ravel, Toru Takemitsu, and Ralph Vaughan Williams brings the sea to the concert stage, from its calmest to its most majestic beauty.

Cape Symphony and the Osterville Village Library present Demos and Duos: A Musical Show and Tell on July 16 at 11:00 AM at the Osterville Village Library (43 Wianno Ave., Osterville). Cape Symphony students and their teachers will share a little about their instruments, and then perform duets together. Then children (and parents!) will get to explore the instruments at our “Instrument Petting Zoo.”

This event is free and open to the public. See you at the Library!

Join us at the Osterville Village Library for a FREE community event to celebrate Summer on Cape Cod, July 22 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. The Flowerpot Community Concert will be music to your ears!

The community is invited to bring a picnic and a flower pot to the big tent at the Osterville Village Library (43 Wianno Ave.) for a participatory percussion concert. Nature and musical craft tables will be there as well.

All are welcome! Bring a small to midsize pottery or ceramic flower pot (metal mixing bowls also work). Thanks to the Make Music Alliance, free Vic Firth mallets will be available while supplies last.

This event is a collaboration between Cape Symphony, Barnstable Land Trust, and the Osterville Village Library. Registration is welcome, but not required.

The Cape Symphony Youth Orchestra Program welcomes all young musicians who play orchestral instruments to audition for placement in one of our ensembles. Auditions for new and returning members who did not already audition in June will be held September 13 at our West Barnstable campus. Please use this form to learn more and sign up.
