Blake Newman brings a powerful, contemporary jazz sound driven by dynamic rhythm, melodic sensitivity, and bold improvisation. As a drummer and composer, Newman’s music balances modern jazz language with deep groove and emotional range, creating performances that are energetic, thoughtful, and tightly connected through interplay. Whether leading his own projects or collaborating with others, his playing is marked by precision, creativity, and a strong sense of momentum.
Blake was born in New York City and was drawn to music at an early age. He entertained himself for hours on end by playing piano. When he was 11 his family moved to Florida and soon thereafter he began taking lessons on viola, eventually settling on double bass followed by bass guitar soon after. Following high school he spent a year in San Francisco before moving to Boston to study at Berklee College. He has called the Boston area home ever since.
