Marisol Sarabia studied on full scholarship with the Austin Ballet; Vaganova Ballet Workshop in Ghent, Belgium; the University of Texas El Paso Ballet; and the San Franciso Ballet. She danced as a guest artist for several companies in Texas, including the El Paso Opera and the El Paso Symphony. She also danced with the San Francisco Ballet and later with UTEP while pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. With her sister Ziba, Marisol started MaZi Dance Fitness Centre in 2009, featuring high energy, results-driven dance cardio for students of all levels, and she continued performing with her own dance company.
Marisol has taught all levels of ballet from professional to beginner, adults and children, as well as adaptive dance for people with disabilities. She started The Gift of Movement at the Ability Lab in Chicago, formerly known as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), in 2014. The program became part of Art in Motion. She also involved her students in community service.
Marisol is passionate about her craft and proud to share it with others. Every note she’s choreographed or performed to, every class she’s taken or taught, has brought an acute awareness of gratitude for that moment. Her teaching is grounded in the belief that in dance, the soul moves first, and that dance is the ultimate outlet and mind/body connection. She believes that one’s level, age, genetic predisposition, or life circumstances should not hinder the opportunity to dance and emotionally connect with music and create art. She hopes to create a nurturing space for movement that supports mental health, creativity, and overall longevity, to plant the seed of the love of dance in new dancers, and to help seasoned ones continue to grow.
Marisol works as a civil engineer and lives with her family on Cape Cod.
