Norma Kelley has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She taught for 36 years in the Dennis-Yarmouth and Barnstable, MA school systems as a Strings Instructor and Orchestra Director, retiring in 2017, and continues to teach privately.
Norma has been a cellist since her own Barnstable school days, and a member of the Cape Symphony Orchestra since 1975. She has conducted several orchestras as an orchestra manager throughout her career and is a recipient of the National School Orchestra Award.
A wealth of teaching and performance experience informs Norma’s insightful and effective teaching style. She knows how to connect with students, and sees how learning music enriches their lives. In private instruction, Norma and her students discuss goals and expectations, and work together to achieve them. For beginners, early lessons strengthen posture and lay a strong foundation for developing technique. Musically, repetition is key until sight reading skills are established.
Norma lives in Hyannis. She is a member of the Cape Cod Athletic Club and an avid traveler.
