Experience the vibrancy of Afro-Brazilian traditions through Capoeira and Samba in this exciting, interactive event featuring the talents of Movement Arts Cape Cod and the newly formed Outermost Batería. This special concert offers a blend of Capoeira’s rhythmic martial arts and the infectious joy of Samba music, bringing together two dynamic art forms that celebrate movement, music, and community.

Capoeira Demonstration and Workshop: Led by André Lima, a Capoeira practitioner with over 20 years of experience under the guidance of Mestre Kinha from Capoeira Besouro Hawaii, this session will introduce you to the graceful acrobatics, dance, and combat elements of Capoeira. Originating in Brazil among African slaves, Capoeira promotes inclusion, mental health, and camaraderie, making it a fantastic opportunity for both kids and adults to engage in a unique cultural experience that develops strength, coordination, and flexibility.

Samba Drumming with Outermost Batería: Cape Cod’s first Samba School, the Outermost Bateria—founded in 2024 by musical director Jim Weber—will bring the lively rhythms of Brazilian Samba to life. Through a participatory workshop and performance, the Batería invites you to immerse yourself in the pulsating beats of Samba, explore traditional Brazilian percussion, and experience the thrill of community music-making.

Broadway sensation and Wicked star Dee Roscioli is also welcomed back to the Cape Symphony stage in this star-studded performance.

Joe Marchio has endeared himself to Cape Symphony audiences in his role of Assistant Conductor and frequent host of our “Musically Speaking” pre-concert talks. He also serves as Music Director of the Chatham Chorale, and Pastor and Director of Music at First Congregational Church of Chatham. Marchio holds degrees from The College of Wooster, Yale University, and Boston Conservatory, where he received his master of music degree in conducting, studying under Dr. William Cutter.
Jae Cosmos Lee, Co-Host
You know Jae Cosmos Lee as the Cape Symphony’s Concertmaster and founding member of A Far Cry, the Grammy-nominated self-conducted orchestra based in Boston. Jae has performed in concert halls throughout Europe, the United States, Canada and Asia, and music festivals worldwide including Aspen, Chautauqua, Banff, and Salzburg. Jae has worked closely with the members of the Cleveland, Juilliard, and Tokyo String Quartets, and shared the stage with everyone from renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro to the most exciting chamber ensembles performing today.
